The Student Hub for Building LB at the Deakin University Burwood campus consolidates Student Central and Business and Law student service reception areas to create a single point of student service, support and advice. The project creates a welcoming, user-friendly and accessible environment for new and current students.
The 300m2 space converts an existing foyer and atrium into an interlinked complex of spaces encompassing: a concierge/ welcoming point; student advice pods; student waiting and lounge areas; skype booths for remote consultations; and a student card photo point, as well as a ‘back of house’ workspace with dedicated and hotdesk workstations, meeting rooms and staff kitchen.
The design response meets a complex brief; satisfying the requirements of diverse stakeholders and incorporating a variety of spaces that will enhance the student services at the Elgar road side of the campus with a professional, stylish and welcoming facility.
This is a sophisticated and professional space for research and administrative staff involved with Deakin University’s prestigious Alfred Deakin Institute for Citizenship and Globalisation. The refurbishment of one and a half floors of an existing building maximises capacity with dedicated and hotdesk workstations as well as private offices, while providing a range of meeting, quiet reading, break-out, and social spaces.
The project involved intensive consultation with research-based academic and administrative support staff. With thorough understanding of academic work requirements, we were able to provide a level of service that exceeded stakeholder expectations.
Deakin Campus Spaces
We designed ten distinctive teaching and office spaces for the Burwood campus of Deakin University. These include flexible teaching spaces for Art, Music, Drama and Dance education as well as a research hub for post graduates.
Werribee Learning Centre
Deakin and The Gordon Werribee Learning Centre was commissioned to provide key facilities and advanced IT infrastructure for Deakin and The Gordon staff and students as well as a local community facility for meetings and functions.
We created a light, welcoming and comfortable space with eye-catching blue and green fabric teamed with natural timber furniture and joinery throughout. The Centre has audio/visual conference and meeting rooms, teaching spaces, a student lounge and a staff office and kitchenette. The Centre’s two learning spaces have been designed with flexibility in mind; so that lectures, round table discussions and small group activities can all be accommodated.
The Newsroom / Media Lab project is a series of teaching spaces at Deakin University. It incorporates a dedicated Newsroom, editing suites and green-screen space for journalism students as well as classrooms, computer labs, and student lounge spaces to be used by students in a broad range of Arts & Education courses.
